Effect on soil moisture

Mucuna bracteata  which form thick mulch comprising live and dried bio-mass form insulation effect and prevent loss of moisture from the soil. Addition of abundant organic carbon increases moisture retention capacity. During summer months soil moisture of Mucuna bracteata field up to 60 cm was examined and found have 18.15 to 18.55 percent  where as in fields with Grass growth registered  13.95 to 16.25 % moisture.
